Advisory Council on Historic Preservation

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Historic Hawai’i Foundation, and the Department of the Interior’s Office of Native Hawaiian Relations are offering a free community seminar on February 22, 2020, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Native Hawaiian organizations’ (NHO) involvement in the national historic preservation program.

Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act is a review process that offers NHOs the opportunity to advocate on their own behalf regarding the preservation of their traditional cultural places and recognizes that NHOs have expertise in the identification and evaluation of historic properties of religious and cultural significance to them.

Washington, D.C.—President Donald J. Trump today submitted his fiscal year 2021 budget request to Congress, seeking $7.4 million in funding for the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP).

“The President’s budget request is good news for the ACHP, supporting our mission of promoting the preservation, enhancement, and sustainable use of the nation’s diverse historic resources,” ACHP Chairman Aimee Jorjani said. “The funding will enhance our capabilities to work with agencies and stakeholders through an efficient and collaborative review process.”

The ACHP celebrates African American History month this February with the recognition of countless historical figures, moments, and places that created the America we see today. One such place sits about 30 miles north of Houston, TX in Montgomery County. Tamina, an unincorporated community near the town of Conroe, is rich in history and community values alike. 

The ACHP is proud to announce the December 5, 2019, adoption of a new strategic plan. Previous versions were adopted in 2011 and updated in 2014.

The ACHP receives direction from the Office of Management and Budget which states: “The Strategic Plan...presents the long-term objectives an agency hopes to accomplish at the beginning of each new term of an Administration by describing general and long-term goals the agency aims to achieve, what actions the agency will take to realize those goals, and how the agency will deal with challenges and risks that may hinder achieving results.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to appoint a new expert member to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). He intends to nominate Jay D. Vogt, South Dakota State Historic Preservation Officer, to replace Expert Member Dorothy Lippert. The White House made the announcement yesterday.
