WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to appoint Meridian, Idaho, Mayor Robert Eugene Simison as the Mayor Member on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). The White House made the announcement yesterday.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is now recruiting for the position of Program Analyst/Department of the Army Liaison (GG-13) within the ACHP’s Office of Federal Agency Programs (OFAP), Washington, D.C. While the initial appointment will be for a term of 13 months, the ACHP anticipates that this appointment may be extended for 3 to 5 years.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will meet for winter business March 12-13, 2020, in Washington, D.C. Members will discuss a variety of topics involving work with traditional trades training and involving all Americans in historic preservation, as well as discuss agency rulemaking and legislative work, among other topics. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Historic Hawai’i Foundation, and the Department of the Interior’s Office of Native Hawaiian Relations are offering a free community seminar on February 22, 2020, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Native Hawaiian organizations’ (NHO) involvement in the national historic preservation program.

Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act is a review process that offers NHOs the opportunity to advocate on their own behalf regarding the preservation of their traditional cultural places and recognizes that NHOs have expertise in the identification and evaluation of historic properties of religious and cultural significance to them.
