The ACHP and the National Trust for Historic Preservation are seeking nominations for the 2023 National Trust/ACHP Award for Federal Partnerships in Historic Preservation. A category of the National Preservation Awards, this joint award honors outstanding federal partnerships that advance the preservation of important historic resources.

Federal activities have a profound impact on our nation’s cultural landscape. This national awards program provides an opportunity to showcase an agency’s commitment to historic preservation and raise public awareness of its accomplishments.

As high school students ponder which career to pursue, historic preservation might not come immediately to mind. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is working with its partners on ways to change that.

The fields of historic preservation and cultural resources management are currently experiencing shortages of skilled candidates to fill jobs necessary to support the national historic preservation program. This year, the ACHP embarked on a multi-faceted project to attract high school and college students to careers in historic preservation.

Host Luke Nichter recently spoke with Jennifer Gibson, Director of the Center for Fine Arts at the General Services Administration about the GSA's Art in Architecture Program, which is celebrating 50 years this year. The program helps place contemporary American artwork in public spaces at federal buildings. In this episode of Preservation Perspectives, Gibson tells Dr. Nichter about the artworks that have been placed in historic federal buildings, such as the Old Post Office in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON, D.C.–The U.S. Senate voted by unanimous consent on December 22, 2022, to confirm Professor Sara C. Bronin of Connecticut as chairman of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), following her nomination by President Joe Biden. Once sworn in, Bronin will lead the ACHP. The agency has operated under the oversight of its vice chairman, Jordan Tannenbaum, since June 2021.
