    Executive Summary In conjunction with its May 9, 2003, quarterly meeting, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) hosted a second summit meeting of Federal agencies to discuss cultural heritage tourism. As was apparent at the first summit meeting in November 2002, many Federal agencies are already supporting heritage tourism in various ways through their missions and programs.

    This report explains how saving energy is a benefit of preserving historic buildings - that it takes less energy to restore old buildings than to replace them. Designed for a general audience, it summarizes research that is described in detail in Assessing the Energy Conservation Benefits of Historic Preservation: Methods and Examples.

  5. Alternate Procedure
    On March 25, 2004, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation approved technical and administrative amendments to the Army Alternate Procedures. Those Army Alternate Procedures set forth a process that Army installations can follow in order to meet their historic preservation review responsibilities under the National Historic Preservation Act. The main purposes of the amendments are to conform the Alternate Procedures to the Army’s internal reorganization, and clarify its exemption regarding designated surface danger zones.

    In 2013, the ACHP issued a report, Measuring Economic Impacts of Historic Preservation. Commissioned by the ACHP, with funding assistance from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, the report identifies and analyzes methods for measuring the economic impacts of historic preservation.

It walks them through the on-boarding process, including all the forms they need to file once they have been appointed to the ACHP, and explains how they may claim a per diem, make travel arrangements, and get a government credit card. If you are a new ACHP member, congratulations! We really appreciate your service … and we apologize for requiring so much paperwork, but it cannot be avoided.
