    Preservationists marked the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) in 2016 and took the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the federal preservation program that was created by the NHPA. In conjunction with a public outreach effort, the ACHP analyzed the federal preservation program established by the NHPA and developed recommendations for actions that would improve the program to address current and future needs.

    The following federal agencies with real property management responsibilities submitted a baseline report on internal regulations, management policies, and operating procedures for compliance with Sections 110 and 111 of NHPA (16 U.S.C. 470h-2 & 470h-3) and subsequent progress reports to the Chairman of the ACHP and to the Secretary of the Interior per Section 3(b) and (c) of EO 13287.

    The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation published an exemption that relieves federal agencies from the requirement of taking into account the effects of their undertakings on historic natural gas pipelines.
  8. Guidance Document
    In response to a joint request from the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands, and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation undertook an analysis of preservation issues concerning Federal support for highly scientific and technical facilities. The analysis considered the appropriate role of historic preservation in decisionmaking about the operation and management of these facilities. An update is forthcoming.
