Joint Military Training Construction on the Island of Tinian (MP)

Case Details

Northern Mariana Islands
The United States Marine Corps proposes to construction in support of expanded military training activities within the federally managed Military Lease Area on the island of Tinian in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The construction will establish a training area to include two live-fire training ranges safety towers, improvements to an expeditionary runway, landing zones, an expeditionary base camp, biosecurity facilities, road improvements, and utilities, among others. Current Department of Defense (DoD) training within the MLA includes non-live-fire ground-based reconnaissance, urban terrain operations, evacuation operations, command and control, logistics, bivouac camping, land navigation, convoy training, noncombatant evacuations, amphibious landings, sniper shots into bullet traps, and expeditionary airfield operations training on North Field. In addition, logistical aviation activities and training (take-offs, landings, refueling) are conducted at Tinian International Airport. Dedicated on-island Range Control does not currently exist on Tinian. The Tinian Training Area and Range Operations Command would be established to schedule training, manage range safety and emergency response, coordinate public access, publish announcements and notices about proposed training, and ensure environmental compliance for all training actions.
