Imperial USA Corporation Mining Exploration Project (CA)

Case Details

Imperial County

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), El Centro Field Office, has received an application from the Imperial USA Corporation (IUC) regarding a proposed mining plan of operations in order to conduct exploratory drilling on three discontinuous project segments located on public lands in eastern Imperial County, California. Within the three project segments IUC proposes to grade approximately 168 drill pads and four test pits that would be used to provide information for subsurface mineral, geotechnical, environmental, hydrogeological, and/or engineering assessments. Drilling on each pad may include multiple angle borings at a drill length between 820 feet and 1,476 feet. Access to the drill pads on the project segments would utilize BLM designated routes of travel as much as possible; however, up to 2.9 acres of new roads are proposed. In total, anticipated disturbance from the drill pads, turnouts and access routes within all three project segments would be approximately 14 acres. Once exploration activities are completed, disturbed areas including drill pads and roads would be restored. It is important to note that there was an earlier iteration of this undertaking was proposed in 1998, and that consultation ended with the BLM terminating and requesting ACHP comment in accordance with 36 CFR § 800.7(c).
