Alsea Bay Bridge Replacement Project (OR)
Case Details
The Federal Highway Administration is proposing to replace the 1986 Memorandum of Agreement Between the Federal Highway Administration, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and the Oregon State Historic Preservation Officer for the Alsea Bay Bridge Replacement Project, U.S. Highway #101, Lincoln County, Oregon. An interpretive center was erected as mitigation for the 1991 demolition of the Conde McCullough Bridge over the Alsea River. Since then, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) has managed and maintained the building. The OPRD has now walked away from the agreement, as they can no longer afford to maintain the building. As the 1986 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has no sunset or termination clause, the consulting parties are proposing to develop a new MOA to supersede the previous one and that will clearly establish the mitigation efforts the consulting parties intend to undertake in lieu of the former interpretive center.
