Case Details

Grant County
In 2019, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) received funding to re-seed a portion of land affected by the L Road Fire, located in the Saddle Mountain Unit of Hanford Reach National Monument in Grant County, WA. A 2011-acre area was selected for re-seeding using the drill seed method. Equipment used for this effort was a rubber tracked tractor pulling a drill seeder. On February 4, 2019, the drill seeder operator unintentionally entered the boundaries of site #45GR318, damaging a portion of the site’s stratigraphic context. In doing so, the drill seeder affected aspects of the site’s integrity and the FWS has determined that this action resulted in an adverse effect to the site.
