Advisory Council on Historic Preservation

Today the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) notified the National Park Service that it is terminating consultation on the development of a Section 106 agreement for the Triumphal Arch Project in Washington, DC, and Virginia. Pursuant to its responsibilities under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the ACHP will prepare formal comments on the project and submit them to the Secretary of the Interior. Once the Secretary of the Interior considers and responds to the ACHP’s comments, the Section 106 review for this undertaking will be concluded.

WASHINGTON, DC– The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) and the National Trust for Historic Preservation (National Trust) honored the San Antonio National Historical Park in San Antonio, Texas, with the National Trust/Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Award for Federal Partnerships in Historic Preservation. The award was presented by National Trust President Brent Leggs during the National Trust’s Preservation Awards Ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC, on September 22, 2026.

Under section 109 of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), 42 U.S.C. § 4336c, the ACHP may adopt a categorical exclusion (CE) listed in another federal agency's NEPA procedures. A CE is a category of actions that the agency has determined normally does not significantly affect the quality of the human environment and, therefore, does not require preparation of an environmental assessment (EA) or an environmental impact statement (EIS).

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s next Business Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 9 a.m. ET. The location is still being determined.

The meeting will be open to the public.
