ACHP members met March 1 for their winter business meeting. It was the first meeting led by newly appointed Chair Sara Bronin, and members gathered in-person at the ACHP offices in Washington, D.C. The recording of the proceedings can be found on the ACHP's YouTube page.

Members voted to approve the agency's legislative agenda for the 118th Congress which includes priority issue areas such as the Historic Preservation Fund, community development and affordable housing, digitizing and mapping resources, and addressing the impacts of infrastructure development on historic properties. Members also approved the ACHP's updated Policy Statement on Burial Sites, Human Remains, and Funerary Objects. Read more about that topic here.

They heard updates on ACHP work with the Climate Change and Historic Preservation Task Force, the Army's revised request for a Program Comment on Vietnam War-era housing, efforts to engage students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as other students in gaining knowledge about historic preservation topics. The workforce development programs continue, with ACHP offices planning for listening sessions and research into the need for job candidates in historic preservation fields and making sure students have the proper educational experience to take those jobs.

The next Report to the President on the status of federal property management is due Feb. 15, 2024. Themes for the upcoming report include equity, climate change, and infrastructure. Members were introduced to the ACHP Foundation's first 21st Century Preservation Leaders Fellow, Matthew Kenyatta, who spoke to them about his plans for the fellowship.

The summer business meeting will be July 11-12 in Washington, D.C.
