Classroom Training Courses

The Section 106 Essentials is an 8-hour course in two delivery formats for anyone interested in an overview of the Section 106 review process. The course is particularly helpful for managers/decision makers and early-career cultural resources practitioners. This course focuses on applying the vocabulary and principles of the Section 106 review process in real-world scenarios.
The Section 106 Agreements Seminar is a 4-hour, single-session course that builds skills in managing consultation and documenting agreed upon steps to resolve adverse effects in a Section 106 review of a federal undertaking. The seminar is designed for cultural resources, environmental, and legal practitioners who are fluent in the Section 106 implementing regulations and the review process.
The Section 106 Practitioners Workshop is a 16-hour course in which participants explore best practices and build skills in the application of the Section 106 review process to federal undertakings. The course is well-suited to individuals who participate in Section 106 reviews on a routine basis and need to further develop or maintain fluency in the vocabulary and concepts of Section 106 review in complex situations.

By-Request and Tailored Classroom Courses

Along with our regularly scheduled, open-enrollment courses, the ACHP offers two approaches to meet the Section 106 training needs of federal, state, tribal, and local agencies and other organizations:

  • By-request courses: Any of the ACHP's classroom courses can be scheduled at a date and time convenient to the course sponsor. Course content, materials, and classroom experience are the same as our open-enrollment courses with the ease of using our or your videoconferencing system or conference room, conditions permitting. Two of our classroom courses (Section 106 Essentials and Section 106 Agreements) can also be delivered by request via Zoom. Our Practitioners Workshop is only presented in person. By-request courses offer cost savings for larger groups (20 or more). Courses from our series of webinars can also be scheduled by request at a cost savings for 20 or more log-ins.

  • Tailored courses: ACHP staff can develop classroom training ranging from 4 to 8 hours based on an organization’s needs. We can also develop webinars by request. Content, exercises, reference materials, and delivery methods can be designed to meet specific goals the organization has for improving federal historic preservation review and compliance programs.
