The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) has posted updated guidelines for federal agencies about how to report on their progress in identifying, protecting, and using historic properties in their ownership or control, consistent with the requirements of Section 3 of Executive Order 13287 (EO). The next report to the President on federal historic property stewardship will be issued by February 15, 2024. The ACHP has made several changes in preparation for the next round of reporting under EO 13287, focusing on themes such as infrastructure, job creation, equity, and climate change.

The use of these guidelines is not mandatory, and a federal agency with real property management responsibilities can, at its discretion, independently determine how it will report on the progress of its efforts to identify, protect, and use its historic properties. Federal agency progress reports are due to the ACHP on or before September 30, 2023; the advisory guidelines provide submittal specifications.
