Are you interested in exploring preservation-related careers and developing professional skills? Intern with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), an independent federal agency in Washington, DC. The ACHP oversees the historic preservation review process for federal projects and advises the President and Congress on historic preservation. Interns make significant contributions to the ACHP’s work while gaining valuable experience and insight into the national preservation program.
The ACHP is now accepting applications for a full-time Legal Intern for summer of 2026. The intern will be working in the Office of General Counsel and must have completed their second year of law school and possess strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
The candidate will assist with research on legal questions related to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Section 106 review. They will conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda on NHPA legislative history and caselaw, and update agency legal reference materials.
The internship duties may be performed either in-person in Washington, DC, hybrid, or virtually. The internship is full-time for 10 weeks with pay of $20 per hour.
