Section 106 Resources for Indian Tribes

 

Online On-demand Training

Section 106 Training for Indian Tribes is a step-by-step introduction to the Section 106 process for Tribal Leaders and Tribal staff in Tribal historic preservation and natural and cultural resources and includes suggestions for navigating consultation with federal agencies and maximizing opportunities for influencing federal decision making. 

Native Hawaiian Organizations in the Section 106 Process is designed to assist Native Hawaiian Community members and leaders advance their understanding of the Section 106 review process and increase awareness of strategies for engaging in consultation with federal agencies.

Early Coordination With Indian Tribes for Infrastructure Projects is a 90-minute online course for applicants for federal permits, licensing, or funding and federal permitting agencies and staff. Course Flyer

Native American Sacred Sites and the Federal Government is offered by the Departments of Defense, the Interior, Agriculture, and Energy and the ACHP to help non-Tribal people better understand and appreciate Indian sacred sites.

This guidance is intended to assist Indian Tribe and Native Hawaiian organization (NHO) officials to participate more effectively in the Section 106 review process. Understanding federal agency responsibilities and the rights of Indian Tribes and NHOs is of central importance in ensuring that you have the opportunity to voice your views.   • Section 101(d)(5) Guidance for Indian Tribes This guidance is intended to guide Indian Tribes in their decision-making processes regarding whether and how to enter into Section 101(d)(5) agreements with the ACHP and to provide insight into the ACHP’s interpretation of Section 101(d)(5).

      • Traditional Cultural Landscapes in the Section 106 process This guidance advances the recognition and understanding within Section 106 reviews involving large scale historic properties which have included multiple, linked features that form a cohesive landscape of significance to a Tribe or Tribes or NHOs.
