Members of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation met March 13, 2020, at the National Building Museum. Chairman Aimee Jorjani announced the winner of the Chairman’s Award for Achievement in Historic Preservation, given the night before to the U.S. Army and partners for the rehabilitation of Building 2101, the former Black Officers Club, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Get to Know Jay Vogt

WASHINGTON, DC – Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) Chairman Aimee Jorjani today welcomed new Expert Member Jay D. Vogt and ACHP Observer Ann Pritzlaff Walker during the ACHP business meeting at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Vogt, appointed by President Donald J. Trump, was sworn in for a four-year term.

“The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will benefit greatly from both Jay and Ann’s unique perspectives, wide-ranging experience, and long careers in the preservation field,” Chairman Jorjani said. “I look forward to working with them in the coming years.”

WASHINGTON, DC — Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Chairman Aimee Jorjani today honored a restoration project at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri of one of the last remaining World War II-era black officers clubs in the nation with the ACHP Chairman’s Award for Achievement in Historic Preservation.

Chairman Jorjani presented the award to Alex Beehler, Assistant Secretary of the United States Army and Major General Donna W. Martin, Fort Leonard Wood Commanding General, during a ceremony at a reception during the ACHP’s business meeting at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.

Irish American Heritage Month was first celebrated in March in the U.S. in 1991 to recognize and celebrate the contributions Irish Americans have made to the United States. However, life was not always easy for Irish immigrants trying to make a life for themselves in America in the late 19th century.

March is Women’s History Month, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is celebrating by honoring an important woman preservationist, Ann Pamela Cunningham, who led the effort to preserve the home of President George Washington.
