Partners to Work Toward Preservation Workforce Development

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) Chairman Aimee Jorjani today announced the formation of the ACHP Traditional Trades Training Task Force, which will work to promote the development of a robust workforce in the skilled preservation trades.

The ACHP continued its Historic Preservation Month video series with an interview with Ramon Jackson, South Carolina African American Heritage Coordinator, and Jannie Harriot, Chairperson of the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission. They spoke with ACHP Chairman Aimee Jorjani about the state's efforts to preserve African American history in the state and to bring awareness to the role African Americans played in South Carolina's history.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, in-person internships have been canceled around the nation this summer. Despite this reality, the partners in the Preservation in Practice program remain committed to providing historic preservation training to architecture students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) next year.

On April 3, 2020, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation issued a blanket extension regarding the review under 36 CFR 800.12 of undertakings responding to COVID-19 emergency and disaster declarations. That initial extension was set to expire on May 29, 2020. Considering the likelihood of such declarations remaining in place into the foreseeable near future, and the ongoing need for federal agency responses to them, that extension is now set to expire on July 31, 2020.
