New Advanced Section 106 Seminar for FHWA

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), has developed an advanced Section 106 training seminar. Designed to instruct environmental and cultural resources personnel from FHWA and State DOTs on the effective management of Section 106 review, the course covers:
  • Resolving conflicts in consultation
  • Identifying creative mitigation
  • Negotiating and preparing agreement documents for complex or controversial undertakings that require compliance with Section 106
This is a one day course intended for experienced practitioners with a basic understanding of the requirements of Section 106.

Prerequisites for attendance include completion of the NHI 's "Beyond Compliance: Historic Preservation in Transportation Project Development," the ACHP 's "Section 106 Essentials", or a similar introduction to Section 106 course and experience administering the Section 106 process at the state or federal level.
