Event Opportunities > Communities and Neighborhoods

A great opportunity for visiting officials is one that offers a deliverable that can become the event focal point, such as presentation of a certificate signed by the First Lady or a welcome road sign, or both. View Preserve America communities, neighborhoods, and stewards (listed by state) for current status and opportunities.

However, even if no deliverable is available, it is valuable to recognize the community or neighborhood's Preserve America status and honors that have been locally significant. For local and state officials, designation events are ripe for media attention when used to showcase Preserve America efforts, give grant awards, or otherwise creatively recognize the local community or neighborhood.

Official remarks that note the community's Preserve America efforts acknowledge that the community and its residents have a laudable and worthy understanding of the importance of historic preservation to its own, and the nation's, economic, educational and cultural future.
